The Royal Albert Hall celebrates LGBT History Month 2017 with two special film screenings with Q&A – Pride (6 February 2017) and Carol (28 February 2017).
Set in New York City during the early 1950s, Todd Haynes’ multi-Academy Award nominated Carol tells the story of a forbidden affair between an aspiring young photographer and an older woman. Based on Patricia Highsmith’s 1952 novel The Price of Salt, an immediate connection sparks between the young clerk Therese Belivet (Rooney Mara) and Carol (Cate Blanchett), an alluring woman trapped in a loveless, convenient marriage. As Carol leaves the comfort of home to travel with Therese, an internal journey of self-discovery coincides with her new sense of space.
After the screening of Carol, Oscar-winning producer Mia Bays will lead a panel discussion with guests including Deborah Levy, the Man Booker Prize short-listed, and multi award-winning British author of titles including Swimming Home (2011).
