Oscar-nominated director David France (How to Survive a Plague) returns with a riveting new documentary about legendary BAME trans icon and gay liberation activist, Marsha P. Johnson. Marsha, who along with Sylvia Rivera spearheaded the Stonewall Riots and formed the world’s first trans-rights organisation, was mysteriously found dead in 1992. Now, 25 years later, an activist named Victoria Cruz has taken it upon herself to reexamine what happened at the end of Marsha’s life. France masterfully employs some breathtaking archive footage to celebrate the wonderful life of Marsha, juxtaposing it with Victoria’s vigorous search for justice. A poignant and crucial commentary on the present state of trans rights, that sheds light onto the ongoing police brutality against trans people, while honouring the trailblazers who put the T in LGBT.
Screening in partnership with Stonewall. A percentage of the screening’s profits will be donated to the charity.
