The Drift

At the base of Heron Tower in The City, is a gin lover's dream. Ladies and gentlemen, we would like to introduce you to The Drift and G.I.Y. (Gin It Yourself).

The space inside The Drift can only be described as “whoooaaa”! It’s bloody huge! A vast area set inside glass and steel can (and usually does) feel very cold and soulless, but The Drift is anything but. When we arrived, there was already a great buzz in the place with a mix of office workers and passers-by. The street level bar is more of a standing space with a few poseur tables and highchairs for guests to relax. But the real magic happens upstairs.

As we reached the first floor, we were warmly greeted by the hostess who then took us to our table. The first floor is a much more relaxed space with more of a lounge feel to it and a restaurant section with sharing tables and a chef's table (ideal for Christmas parties). After we took our seats, the hostess pointed us in the direction of the holy grail of all things gin. The Gin It Yourself bar.

If you love gin, then this is for you. With G.I.Y., you can have any gin from the selection listed and have it any way you want it. Now, we’re not talking your standard house pours here. Oh no. We’re talking premium brands and an array of garnishes. The gins on offer include Gin Mare, Little Bird, Becketts and Silent Pool to name but a few. The tonics range from Fevertree to Bermondsey Tonic Water Syrup and there are 8 garnishes to choose from. Lemon or lime won’t cut it here as a garnish. We’re talking rhubarb, star anise, basil and lavender and much more (well, 4 more).

At £8.95 a glass, The Drift is by far the best place in London to get a top quality G&T any way you like it. We sampled a few different concoctions (because we care for you, dear reader) and can personally recommend you try Little Bird with Bermondsey Tonic Water Syrup and fresh basil. This will take your gin appreciation to a whole new level.
