The Gibson

The Gibson

Met someone at an OutSavvy event? Chatted to them on the app? Made a date? Well done, we need to get some tips from you! Despite the lack of dates at OutSavvy we are still old romantics at heart and for the good of you boys and girls who actually have a date we have scoured London for the most romantic spots to take your latest hottie. We bring to you The Gibson.

The bar is a time machine back to Edwardian times and as you enter you forget about the hustle and bustle of Old Street just down the road.  Named after The Gibson cocktail, just like the bar, it is a true classic.  The bar itself is dark and moody inside and perfect for a first date.

We sat down at the table and were given an extensive cocktail menu by our rather charming barman. The choice is staggering and each cocktail (despite being on the pricey side) is unique and different. Have you ever had a custard apple pie cocktail? We certainly haven’t until now. There is also a snack and nibbles menu but we decided to skip the food and hit the cocktails. You can see some of the cocktails we sampled on our Instagram feed. We started with the Electric Earl (that was accompanied by an odd flower that made our mouths go numb) and The Hummingbird. The cocktails contain ingredients you would never think they could put in a drink. How about Smoked Tofu, Barbados Sorbet, Flapjack and Pickled Quail Eggs! Each cocktail feels unique, meticulously thought out and designed. It is like the Vivienne Westwood of the cocktail world; each cocktail being a work of art. The Hummingbird had a great mix of sweet and sharp while The Electric Earl was perfectly bitter, your taste buds will be doing cartwheels in your mouth. Each cocktail really is an experience that needs to be savoured and with an average price of around £11 you won’t want to be downing them.

It is best to get there early to bag yourself a table. The venue itself is small but perfectly formed and could be a struggle to get a table during more popular hours.

So there we go Team OutSavvy, a venue perfect for a date and sure to impress. We might be getting ahead of ourselves but if the date turns into love don’t forget to invite OutSavvy to your wedding. Cocktails on us!
