Comedy for queers

If you’ve ever been to an open mic night you’ll know that roughly 100% of comedians are straight white men in chinos. Why?

Well Sue and Celeste, the creators of The Glory’s new queer comedy show, have dedicated their time to understanding how privilege is amassed, in the hope of getting some.

Celeste is a comedian, Sue is a drag queen, and their new show combines the funniest queers of the cabaret scene with the most established names in comedy who aren’t straight white men in chinos. Their hope is that this will create a strange funny valuable queer space for play. And that that will be quite lucrative for them.

So if you’re a pansexual in mink, a POC in velvet or, yes, even a straight white man in chinos, come explore the idea of what’s funny. All are welcome.

Shazia’s recent TV appearances include The Jonathan Ross Show (ITV), Graham Norton (BBC), Loose Women (ITV), The Late Late Show (RTE), Top Gear (BBC), and is a regular panelist on The Wright Stuff (Channel 5), and The Frank Skinner Show (Absolute Radio)

Mawaan Rizwan
'BBC Three favourite Mawaan Rizwan is a mischievous performer, with a no-holds-barred physicality and high-wattage charm’ (Guardian).

Mawaan Rizwan is possibly our favourite comedian, and the first to make a second appearance at Play Date. He has literally just finished touring with Simon Amstell and is one of the UK's most exciting comedians. He combines physical clowning with absurdist gags, cultural commentary, and quite a lot of slut drops. He's hosted his own BBC documentary (How Gay Is Pakistan?), is a children's TV presenter, and won Youtube's 'Next Comic' award.

Amy Annette
Comedy performer and mogul, Amy Annette is the founder and host of the hugely successful show ‘What Women Want’. The show started at Mach Comedy festival in 2016 which was then followed by a short but packed out run at Edinburgh festival on the Free Fringe in the same year. Since then WWW has been at King's Place for a sell out show, at the Bill Murray for a residency, Libreria bookshop as part of Second Home, back to Edinburgh in 2017 for a 5 day run at the Underbelly and then to the Soho Theatre in London for a series of dates.
The show is a conversation show where Amy interviews her more famous comedian friends about misconceptions, misadventures and misogyny surrounding 'What Women Want'. Past shows include 'What Women Want is to be treated like a princess' and 'What Women Want is a beach ready body'.
Previous guests include Josie Long, Nish Kumar, Lolly Adefope, James Acaster, Desiree Burch, Sofie Hagen, Joe Lycett, Shappi Khorsandi, Mae Martin, Suzi Ruffell, Tom Allen, Jessie Cave, Phil Wang, Rose Matafeo, Kiri Pritchard Maclean and Stuart Goldsmith.

Jim Lavender
Creator of and caseworker to the iconic drag character Tracy Barlow, Jim Lavender is 2017 Drag Idol winner and a former winner of Not Another Drag Competition. Basically, he’s doing about as well as its possible to do in drag world. Now with solo shows at the RVT and around the country, Jim is creating new characters and new work we have no idea what he’s going to present.
