Read Kip’s story:
In September 2017, Kip moved to Brighton and started a Primary Education degree.
Fast forward to May 2018: Kip’s in their last week of first year, having worked to achieve firsts in all academic assignments that year and ‘outstanding’ on placement. Then they receive an email. Student Finance England have decided to revoke their offer to fund Kip’s three-year course because Kip already has (part of) a qualification in dance, something that SFE knew about from the start.
Without funding, Kip cannot afford to continue their degree. Without funding, they are unable to qualify as a teacher, and unable to become a role model to so many children. As a queer, trans teacher, Kip would be in a minority, only adding to their value as an educator.
All ticket sales and donations will not only change Kip’s life, but the lives of children who have felt ostracised, different, rejected or wrong. With Kip as a teacher, children can feel valued, accepted, creative and beautiful. They will enjoy school and feel included, perhaps for the first time.
