This full days training consisting of 6 hours of CPD is aimed at qualified counsellors, coaches psychotherapists,mental health professionals and final year students who wish to provide the very best possible for their gender, sexual and relationship diverse clients. All attendees will recieve CPD certicates and an online rescource pack. The day will be a combination of experiential, practical and theoretical including;
- The impact of being GSRD on mental health
- Models of coming out and inviting in
- Our own attitudes to, and experiences of gender and sexuality
- Working ethically within the Memorandum of Understanding on Conversion Therapy
- What to do when clients ask us to "fix them"
- Different relationship styles and models
- Our own unconscious biases and how they impact the theraputic relationship
The training will be led by Karen Pollock, an Advanced Pink Therapy trainer, published author on gender and sexuality, and Advanced Accredited counsellor and supervisor. It has been developed as an introduction for those not specialising in working with gender, sexuality and relationship diversity, but with room for all attendees to bring their own knowledge and experiences. Karen has trained level 4, 5 and Masters students in working with GSRD clients, and presented at Pink Therapy and BPS conferences, as well as training a number of public, private and third sector organisations including NHS trusts, Newcastle and Northumbria Universities and was Diversity and Inclusion lead for a national LGBTQ charity. After graduating with a specialist PG-Dip in gender, sexuality and relationship diverse therapy Karen has since gone onto advise a number of counselling organisations on LGBTQAI inclusion, and has developed the working with sex workers course for Pink Therapy.
Gareth Davies is, at various times, a coach, local government leader, and director or trustee of charities and voluntary organisations. Born and brought up in a small town, he left at the age of 16 with everything he owned in a little black case, and began a career that has built his portfolio of skills across a range of industries including hospitality, finance and the head office of a major political party. After going to university as a mature student, Gareth has degrees or diplomas from three universities and is currently a part time postgrad at a fourth. Gareth qualified as a coach in 2010, and after 10 years of in house practice in local authorities has struck out into private practice. An experienced trainer, Gareth began his career helping individuals be their best selves as an occasional trainer at Durham University Business School, (whilst an undergraduate) and has a broad experience running skills training and facilitating business improvement events.
The training will take place in central Newcastle, 5 minutes walk from Newcastle Central Station, 30 minutes by metro from Newcastle airport, and close to public transport links, hotels and car parking. Lunch will be provided and there will be opportunities to network in the evening.
Covid-19 mititgations will be in place and a through risk assement will take place to ensure the training accessible and safe. A full accessibilty report is available upon request, the venue is wheelchair accessible throughout, has step free access, and the training is neurodiverse friendly.
