Join us for the opening event of A Retrospective on Decolonising Contraception. A living archive of materials that chronicles the work of and the people behind the award-winning Decolonising Contraception, a precursor to Reproductive Justice Initiative (RJI).
Decolonising Contraception burst onto the scene in 2018, forcing another round of public conversation about the legacy of colonialism as a key contributor to inequalities in sexual, reproductive and wider health. It quickly emerged as an interdisciplinary collective of Black and People of Colour working in sexual and reproductive health, including sex educators, doctors, campaigners, journalists and researchers. Equipped with a Sexfesto and a tag line about doing things differently, Decolonising Contraception built global connections and expanded its reach.
Through a five-day-long audio-visual installation, celebrate Black History Month at the Vagina Museum, where we, together, revisit activities, experiences, and our continued fight for Reproductive Justice.
A Retrospective on Decolonising Contraception is in collaboration with and supported financially by the Swiss National Science Foundation-funded research project on Race and Ethnicity: Sexual Health and Reproductive Experiences (RE:SHaRE).
