Blue Loop is the moniker of Emma Hall, a London-based electronic producer and performer from Merseyside. Her productions are formed from layers of analogue synths (principally the Korg Minilogue and a vintage Juno 106), along with found sound which she twists into organic rhythms. The resulting compositions have echoes of the ambient end of Skee Mask, Rival Consoles and Autechre, exploring unusual harmonics and experimental rhythms, weaved between her own layered and manipulated vocals.
An accomplished live performer in her own right, she builds improvised electronic soundscapes using her Minilogue, a ROLI seaboard and a web of samples on Ableton. She has performed in London, Reykjavik, and Berlin - notably supporting AK Patterson at her immersive Steelworks show in 2022.
She is deeply rooted in London’s female and gender-expansive music community through her involvement with charity Spark The Noise, where she has worked as a synth tutor alongsideEstella Adeyeri (Big Joanie), Nadia Javed (The Tuts), Luca Perry (musical director, Romy) and Rosetta Carr (bassist, Sampha).
Hall's releases often start as candlelit jams with collaborators in her home studio; her 2020 debut single BEFORE IT BEGINS features spoken word from poet and drummer Shakira Stellar, whilst 2021’s KODAMA is a kaleidoscope of clarinet improvisations by folk musician Rose Ford. More recently, Hall’s remix of Amy Fitz Doyley’s single EYE OF THE NEEDLE was released on vinyl for Record Store Day 2023.
In spring 2023, work on a new EP was interrupted by a life-changing breast cancer diagnosis, requiring chemotherapy, a mastectomy and radiotherapy. What followed was a transformation of both artist and project: the EP evolved into CYCLES, a full-length album written in response to treatment, where Hall brings her voice and lyrics to the fore for the first time - creating her most intimate work to date.
