Boudica Presents is a new project by Boudica born out of the desire of exploring the many shades of Electronic Music.
Boudica Presents will present you with the finest music across the globe, focusing on LIVE shows.
The launch of Boudica Presents will take place on the 22nd of September at Oslo (Hackney) and will showcase two incredible LIVE acts, Monkey Town's star Catnapp and Zand, fresh from their tour alongside Queer icon Peaches.
The show will be accompanied by local talents DJ Antimanifesto and GAWDX
CATNAPP
Catnapp started her journey in her native Argentina and made an impact in the underground scene of Buenos Aires. Eventually, destiny found its way and Catnapp signed to Modeselektor’s Monkeytown Records for the release of her EP Fear in 2018.
She has played some of the biggest stages available for electronic underground artists, from Melt! to Sonar Festival, from SXSW to Berghain.
While Catnapp herself describes her music as pop as it can get, there’s an undeniable punk spirit and DIY ethos to her tracks. It’s a wild combination of slow and heavy bass music and futuristic R&B, with influences of modern rap and vintage breakbeat sounds.
She launched her own label NAPP Records back in 2017, allowing her to push and support exciting new artists that explore similarly experimental and idiosyncratic sounds. Additionally, four of her songs feature on the show’s soundtrack. Unorthodox was awarded the Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Limited Series in September 2020. In the year 2022 Catnapp is continuing her winning streak with a new EP on Monkeytown.
Damage is yet another highly original statement by an artist who found her very own voice. And you can’t fight the feeling that it’s all just the beginning.
ZAND
The Blackpool-born artist – real name Zander Sweeney and self- proclaimed Ugly Popstar – coined the term “ugly pop” to describe not just their malevolent sound, but an unflinching commitment to facing down demons of all forms, no matter how frightening.
Gaining over a million streams over 3 singles, Zand continues to grow as an artist and a voice for the LGBTQIA+ community. ‘Freak’ is the third instalment of ZAND’s world which embarks on the story telling of their journey of identity.
“I wrote ‘Freak’ about being non-binary and it tells my story of growing up and coming out, with hope that it also educates people; even a little on the non-binary/trans community so people can feel less alone and ostracized” Zand has had Support from Line Of Best Fit, BBC Introducing, Kerrang! & with a recent feature in British Vogue for LGBTQIA+ 50th Anniversary edition.
Ugly Pop is what happens when you give an underdog the mic — and if it needs to get ugly in order to speak, so be it.
