Join Queer as Funghi for a queer foray in East London and raise money for Bender Defenders, the trans-led kickboxing project!
We will be meeting at a secret location for a QUEER MUSHROOM WALK setting off at 2pm on Sunday 2nd October 2022. We will wander through woodlands and fields admiring mushrooms and their plant friends, in a a group of trans and queer fungus enthusiasts.
This time of year we might be finding russulas, slime moulds, boletes, amethyst deceivers, lichens, coral funghi and all sorts of funnel shrooms. We will be collecting medicinal mushrooms to share between people having gender affirming surgeries.
We will munch on mushroom snacks and drinks (think polypore chai! chanterelle hummus!) and myceliate over fungal mutual aid, smash the parasite/symbiont binary and admire fungal decompositional activism.
We will end at a local pub, to celebrate our finds and give you the option to pick up some Bender Defender stash!

ALL TICKET SALES GO TO THE BENDER DEFENDER FUNDRAISER!
I've decided to run this fundraising walk for Bender Defenders (BD) because having an accessible and regular space to train in with other trans and queer people has meant a lot to me, having a big impact on my physical and mental health, and that of other trans and queer people!
Bender Defenders are fundraising to keep their classes accessible, and to make it more sustainable - please do go here to read and donate if you can: https://www.gofundme.com/f/bender-defenders-fundraiser

PLEASE NOTE - this is not an online event as advertised here. The IRL location will be shared a few days before the walk with ticket holders.

- The location of the walk will be emailed in advance of the walk. We will be meeting at a tube station.
- Please wear weather appropriate clothing and shoes and bring water.
- The walk will be around 3 hours long, over uneven ground. Please do get in touch to discuss the walk if you need more information about the route by emailing queerasfunghi@gmail.com.
- The walk will primarily be an educational foray, rather than a foraging walk, however we will collect a few medicinal mushrooms or choice edibles. If you choose to consume anything you find, the responsibility for identification is yours. I would not recommend consuming your wild finds if you are new to mushroom identification.
