The Poetry of our everyday LGBTQ+ Lives: A Creative Writing Workshop with Dr Yewande
Are you interested in exploring the power of poetry, spoken word, and creative writing to reflect on your lived experience? You might be interested in attending The Poetry of our LGBTQ+ Everyday Lives workshop, at The Common Press Bookshop & Café, Shoreditch, London. We will start our workshop with the self-care practice of guided meditation and breathwork, to enhance a sense of wellness, connectivity, and creativity.
We will then respond to a selection poetry, prose, images, and newspaper cuttings, symbolic of breakthrough moments in LGBTQ+ communities. Can we draw inspiration and parallels from LGBTQ+ breakthrough moments? Or is your lived experience absent from the bigger narrative? What have you been yearning to speak to? This workshop provides the space to start the first step towards writing your story.
We conclude the workshop with sharing our creative offerings with poetry reading and spoken word performance, play and improvisation. All good fun for a Friday afternoon in Shoreditch.
This event is part of the Being Human festival, the UK’s national festival of the humanities, taking place 10-19 November 2022. For further information please see https://www.beinghumanfestival.org/
