As one of the tenets of the Whitefriars Club is charity, the Club gives £250 to the charity of choice of every speaker, and the roster of charities benefitting from our collective generosity is as impressive as it is varied. As such, our November charity events have become a key cornerstone of the Whitefriars calendar, and allow us to raise money for the Club's charity fund.
This year's event is set to be great fun – a programme will be circulated on the night, so there will be a few surprises, but a few of the evening's (Turkish) delights are outlined below.
Diana Fletcher, a veteran traveller with a lifelong affection for camels and the Bedouin tribes of North Africa, will be regaling us with stories from the Tunisian Sahara, where she keeps her camel Zeydoun and runs Camel Voyages for friends and intrepid travellers. (More information on Diana here.)
On the food front, the Savile have devised a mouth-watering menu to suit the theme, and Turkish wine, sourced by Friar Huseyin Ozer, will be included in the cost of the dinner, which for this month only will be £75.
The dress code will be, as usual, lounge suit or evening wear, but Friars are welcome to adopt a more adventurous style in keeping with the theme if they so wish!
Following a packed programme, with the raffle drawn at 10 p.m., carriages will be at 10.15.
