This class is for those who like it fast, dirty and dynamic. But also aesthetic and graceful. Each class will focus on different areas of the discipline. The goal is to understand why you would tie a person and what you may or may not want to do to someone once restrained. In the session, we will work on the fundamentals of body mechanics, how to manoeuvre the body on the floor and some safety considerations
Open to all levels, these basic techniques are ideal for starting a session, getting the body engaged, and bringing focus to your partner, rather than the fumbling knots in your hands.
This Workshop is designed to get people tying and only requires a single knot to be thought. The Workshop is adapted to the attendee's level of experience, so don’t worry if you’ve just learned how to tie your shoelaces.
Participants can come alone or with a friend or partner (two tickets required) on the day. Rope is provided to attendees as well as an overview of safety, consent, and negotiation.
What is Shibari?
Shibari is a Japanese Erotic practice involving the binding and restriction of a person using rope. As its place in western culture grows, it has intersected with other movement-based practices, shedding its overtly sexual and heteronormative roots. The contemporary practice uses aspects of Somatic Bodywork, Breathwork and BDSM to access and engage with the body's non-verbal Language. It allows for the safe exploration of sensuality, physicality, power and constriction; it can be cathartic and intense or erotic and playful.
