who and what are we raising funds for?
ah! hello! that'll be me. im rusty. I set up 'Queer Craft' in August 2021, held at the bloody brilliant craft studio Make Town in Hackney. originally created to use craft to bring people together to combat loneliness and isolation for the queer community, and noticing there wasn't at the time a space for this in London as we were emerging from lockdowns - luckily this really isn’t so much the case now! i am so thankful for strength in community and the endless joy that Queer Craft has brought me.
unfortunately, I have had to make a heartbreaking decision. last year i had a consultation about top surgery and recently took myself off the list for surgery. it was the choice between making my boat a home or making my body a home. I have been a boat owner for only 6 weeks and during that time it hasn't gone smoothly with many (expensive) surprises, including having my boat broken into, being ransacked and stolen from. during the break in, I had wires cut, tools and electrical items stolen. I am still learning about my new boat, there are still mysterious disconnected and cut wires and I am still unsure of the extent of the break in. they attempted to steal my batteries, but were unsuccessful.
I am hoping to raise some funds to help towards making my boat more safe and secure, and the repurchasing and the installation of my converter and inverter (electrical things!) coming to around £500+, plus the wage of an electrical engineer. are we gonna make all that through a craft + bake sale? heck no! but are we gonna have fun and maybe make a couple of pennies, whilst also being anti-capitalist and sustainable by shopping what already exists? yeah!
want to chuck a quid into the mix but can't make the event? theres a donation option below. thank you for your support and kindness, always.
When its gonna be?
Sunday 16th April, 6:30 - 9:30pm
Monday 17th April, 12pm - 6pm (ps. its the Queer Craft social in the evening)
