The Common Press is proud to host the second limited dance workshop series with Kumari Suraj on Wednesdays starting July 19th-August 30th. Explore the LGBTQ+ movement foundation and queer history of a vintage Disco dance called, Waacking. Then take it up a notch learn two of Kumari's fusion styles for a certified flex. Don't miss this exclusive session to expand your movement vocabulary and confidence.
6:30pm Bollywaack: Learn Kumari's cross-cultural evolution of Bollywaack, which mixes their South Asian folk/traditional/pop movement with Waacking.
7:45pm Waacking + More: Introducing Kumari's “Frankie Douglas Style” was created as an expression of their masc/gender fluid expression within the style. Created in 2008, Frankie Douglas Style Waacking, mixes Kumari's Afro Caribbean roots with , 90's Hiphop, House & Waacking.

About Kumari Suraj
Kumari is a non-binary choreographer, creative director, fashion designer, songwriter and LGBTQ+ activist, whose dance innovations and cultural contributions in entertainment since the early 2000s, continue to create global impact. A vibrant mix of Afro-Caribbean, South Asian, Native American, and European heritage, Kumari’s work reflects their exploration of life and celebration of their cultural background. They are also the founder of House of Suraj an international Waacking + Bollywaack collective of community activists and creatives.
Featured on LEGENDARY on HBO MAX (2022), New York Times (2020), and Vogue India’s “Top 50 Most Influential Global Indians” (2019), Kumari is an artistic force and cultural game-changer who has influenced the entertainment industry and underground cult communities from Hollywood to Bollywood and beyond.
