This August, for our 16th STM, we are delighted to welcome Kylo Thomas who will be curating a night around the them of ‘JOY & ANGER’ .
If you do not know the drill already, here’s how it works: monologue-rs have up to 10 minutes on their interpretation of the theme. After all the monologues, we’ll jump on the sofas to talk more about the theme.
The event is FREE but pre-booking is recommended. The Glass House is currently operating a BYOB policy for this event.
We’re upstairs at The Common Counter, Bethnal Green Road. 7pm for 7.30pm kick-off
Our speakers for the night are:
Kylo the Kid (he/they) is a South East London based rhymesmith, poet, and skateboarder. His spoken word focuses on radical trans care ⇌ anger ⇌ joy, surviving the psychiatric industrial complex, and how to exist and resist in a deviant body. Kylo is currently an associate artist at Anthroplay Theatre, and has previously performed at ‘Queer Talk Live!’ and published in ‘Transcribed an Anthology of Trans Writing’. Catch him @kylothekid_
Oakley, otherwise known as @fetus_lipstick_stain, is a deeply diseased transsexual, recovering geometer and bisexual. She looks a bit like Miror B from Pokemon Colloseum if he were an alcoholic instead of a cokehead. For the last few years, she’s been writing increasingly incestuous novels and broadcasting her mental illness on stage through e d g y jokes and ramble poem stories. Please enjoy her, it is all she needs.
Cole (they/he) is a Glasgow-born writer and filmmaker who grew up on the move. A Poems That Don’t Suck alumni and Write Bloody UK Finalist (2021), his writing considers identity, belonging and finding home in the people and places that shape him. They are currently working towards a PhD on the transformative potential of trans care. Find them reimagining what it means to be a soft boy, erring on the side of too-earnest and reluctantly engaging with The Internet (but never twitter) @cole.sparkles
Megan Mills (she/xe/it) is a self-described “trans, non-binary, pan, polyam, neurodivergent mess from outer space”. Megan is a long-time content creator, streaming on Twitch as FreeRangeMegs, writing bass music for over 15 years (most recently under the moniker SOMA), and is part of the production team on the gender-expansive podcast Genderful. She’s recently gotten back into spoken word performances, and is known as an “incorrigible menace” by her peers.
