DO YOU WANT TO SEE SOME REAL IN ACTION QUEER AND TRANS POWER????
Then this event is exactly what you need!!!! Come down to Hove to celebrate queer and trans joy in this incredible show organised by three UK based queer martial arts gyms.
!!Allies welcome!! There will be allies both as spectators and competing.
This event is a collaboration between queer and trans fight clubs: Team Queen (Brighton), Athena Combat Club (Bristol) and Bender Defenders (London). We have joined forces and we are very, VERY EXCITED to announce that we have put together a combat sport event where queers, trans people and allies will compete together.
So what are you waiting for? Get yourself a ticket and come and support your mates, queers and trans people doing sport together and unbothered as it should be!
This event is a response to the current hostile environment created by big sport organisations to exclude or segregate trans people (particularly trans women) in sport. We have had enough of their rubbish and pathetic excuses to remove trans women from competitions. We are here to prove that we are all very capable of doing sport all together and WE WILL NOT segregate trans people into their own categories.
WHAT IS AN INTERCLUB?
An interclub (or “exhibition fight”) is an opportunity to test fighters’ skills in a friendly, supportive and low pressure atmosphere. This means that there will not be winners and losers in this event, both fighters will walk out with a cool, snazzy medal.
Fighters are not going to try to knock each other out, but they will put into practice everything they have learned over their training time. Every fighter has put in a lot of work to fight on this date and there will be many novice fighters, so make sure you shout out extra loud for everyone fighting!
HOW DID WE DO IT?
We have not used “gender” as the primary way to categorise bouts. Everyone fighting is matched by weight, height, training, and fighting experience. This is an approach that has been done across Europe in some sporting competitions.
WHAT WILL YOU SEE?
In this event there will be Boxing and K1 fights.
Boxing is a stand up combat sport where two people are only allowed to use their fists to fight each other. Strikes are only permitted above the belt, head and body, no strikes are allowed to the groin or to the back of the head.
K1 is a modern style of kickboxing where two standing people are allowed to use their fists, legs and knees to strike. Fighters are allowed to throw strikes to the head, body and legs. No strikes are allowed to the groin or to the back of the head.
