London's queer ESEA (East and SouthEast Asian) rave GGI 끼 returns on September 29 to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival, one of the most significant and beloved dates of the lunar calendar.
Mid-Autumn Festival centres the values of familial gathering, thanksgiving and ancestor veneration, and celebrates the story of moon goddess Chang’e and her companion Jade Rabbit.
As queer ESEA diaspora we also have the right to gather as one another’s queer chosen family, to connect over delectable street food and mooncake, and to practice collective ceremony through the rave.
And honestly, what’s more queer than a goddess who, according to folklore, becomes immortal in order to fly as far away from her husband as possible, and her rabbit bestie who spends all his days ‘constantly pounding’ (ahem) to create the ‘elixir of life’ (double ahem)?
As usual, we will have performance and paradigm-shifting soundscapes by queer and trans ESEA talent from London and beyond - to guide you through the collective ceremony that is the rave - paired with visuals designed by Wvrmpool Visuals and served alongside a mouthwatering Vietnamese street food stall hosted by @VINAXOA collective.
For traditions sake there’ll be a mooncake tasting ceremony for the first guests through the door, so be sure to arrive early if you want to take part - doors open at 10PM!
