** NOTE: This event is specifically for LGBTIQ+ people experiencing insecure housing and/or who have uncertain immigration status **
** VENUE UPDATE: This event has been moved to a new location: The Outside Project LGBTIQ+ Centre, Unit 1, 52 Lant Street, London, SE1 1RB **
Join Friends of the Joiners Arms to explore how LGBTIQ+ venues and organisations (like us!) can be actively supportive of people in our community who have faced insecure housing and/or have uncertain immigration status.
In this creative interactive workshop we will use drawing, discussion and reflective activities to…
- Explore how LGBTIQ+ venues are already supportive – and map out where they can do better!
- Share our aspirations, dreams and ideas about the types of training, volunteering and work opportunities LGBTIQ+ venues should offer.
- Discuss some of the challenges and barriers that prevent those dreams from coming true – and how we might overcome them.
Your insights, wisdom and ideas will help us to create a report and training guide for LGBTIQ+ venues. All the materials we collect will be anonymous. All workshop participants will be paid for their time and travel costs.
So: If you are LGBTIQ+ and have experienced insecure housing and/or precarious immigration status, please come ready to share your ideas in a respectful, supportive environment!

- Zero tolerance to racism, islamophobia, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, ableism, ageism, fatphobia, body shaming or slut shaming.
- Zero tolerance to prejudice based on class, faith/religion, language ability, gender presentation, physical ability, learning difficulty or mental health.
- Zero tolerance to harassment of any kind, including and not limited to; non-consensual touching, following, leering/ogling, and persisting in a conversation or making non-verbal gestures when the other person has expressed that they don’t want to speak to you.
- Respect other people’s personal space, do not touch anyone unless you have express consent to do so.
- Do not assume anyone’s gender, if in doubt ask or use gender-neutral pronouns until specified otherwise.
Friends of the Joiners Arms understand that this policy is and should be dynamic and change as we learn and grow together. We also understand that we all make mistakes. If your behaviour is addressed by another guest or member of staff, please do not become defensive, instead, take the opportunity to reflect and learn
