The voice is a powerful tool in communication and ideas. It is one of a clown's most precious and mysterious instruments.
It is also a vulnerable and extremely stupid toy for expression and creativity. This is a workshop for practicing performers (clowns, live artists, comedians, actors, drag artists, puppeteers, etc.) to explore accessing playfulness, stupidity and freedom in their voice.
Using vocal warm ups, exercises and clown games developed through Lachlan's process of making solo shows, participants from a range of creative backgrounds will explore using their voices and bodies (sometimes separately, sometimes together) to:
Build characters
Find the funny in our own voices, and hone this for the stage
Practice following vocal impulses
Learn practices for vocal stamina and support
And ultimately make their work more vocally dynamic and playful
ALL PARTICIPANTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO BRING A PIECE OF TEXT OR MATERIAL TO WORK ON. This can be a poem, a monologue, a short section of stand-up comedy, a piece of storytelling, etc.
About Lachlan Werner.
Lachlan Werner is comedy's poof prince of puppets. The "funniest new ventriloquist on the block" (Telegraph), clown and live artist, he was runner up for LGBTQ+ New Comedian Of The Year '22 and a nominee for BBC New Comedy Award, Chortle Best Variety Act, ISH Best Newcomer Edinburgh Comedy Award, Off-West End Cabaret Award, VAULT Comedy Breakthrough Award. His debut solo show 'Voices Of Evil' has been a total sell out hit at Soho Theatre (2022/23), Edinburgh Fringe 2023, VAULT Festival, Brighton Fringe, London Clown Festival, winner of ReviewsHub Best Show Award, and nominated for a Soho Playhouse New York Award. He can frequently be seen yelling at himself with a small squishy witch. He is graduate of Ecole Philippe Gaulier and a regular collaborative member of the Fool's Moon collective, for whom he is resident dramaturg and has led workshops.
He is about to embark on a UK/international tour with his first show 'Voices Of Evil', while developing a second solo show, 'WonderTwunk'.
