80's Gay Bar & The Backstreet Archive
80's GAY BAR!Its fetish week and the The Backstreet are back with more of their amazing archive! There will be chat, live music and song, archive on screen and in person with Mark and Matt from The Backstreet and in the bar you can get hot and sweaty in leather and dance to a night dedicate to the Gay Bars of the 80’s. Referencing iconic bars of the scene like The Backstreet, The Coleherne, The Bell, and Bromptons in Earls Court we will have a night dancing to trash 80’s disco, ‘Hi-NRG’ and 80’s dance classics. So it’s sweaty black leather, check shirts, mirror shades, 501 Jeans, Doc-Marten boots and a hankie in your back pocket as we devote our night to the classic leatherman and clones. It’s for all those who were there and all those who wanted to be! Moustaches are free on the door and its the dress code necessity! see you in the Gay Bar! The Backstreet was a gay leather bar on the Mile End Road in the East End. It was London's longest running, and last remaining leather bar, having opened in April 1985. In 2019, it was saved from redevelopment by Tower Hamlets Council, which stated that the redevelopment would "harm the long-term provision of a nightclub that serves the LGBT+ community".The reprieve was short lived however, and the bar closed permanently on 17 July 2022. It still lives on in the amazing archive of objects, memorabilia, photographs and leather boots!
