Home Studio, Making Cyanotypes with Bernice Mulenga
Bernice Mulenga (they/them) is a British-Congolese photographer with a distinct aptitude for archiving, documenting and interrogating the world around them. Their work focuses on their community and the experiences within itโmost notably found in their ongoing photo series #friendsonfilm. Website: www.bernicemulenga.comInstagram: @burneece
What are cyanotypes?A cyanotype is a creative, simple and flexible photographic print process that produces a beautiful blue image when coated on sensitised paper and exposed to light.About the workshop:In this evening workshop Bernice will guide us through a collage making session propmted by questions surrounding identity, self and community. People are encouraged to also bring their own images, the more personal the better. These collages will be scanned, prepped and printed on transparent paper ready to be printed on pre treated cyanotype papers made by the artist. As this is an evening workshop and we do live in England, we will be using a UV lamp and not natural sunlight. This is just one the many techniques for cyanotypes! We will also work together to create a group collage and cyanotype by combining everyoneโs pieces. If you are interested in seeing more on the process and techniques of cyanotypes Bernice has selected the videos below:1. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=KQ438yKOEYA2. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=SLoxNysJfRc&t=18s3. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=pM74pMkUxCM
