Event description:
‘Reel to meal’ is a gathering centred around Palestinian food and media. We aim to foster connection, nourishment and solidarity; encouraging everyone in the sensory and quietly intimate experience of dining together, as well as watching a Palestinian made film that shares a significant voice.
Plan for the evening:
- 5.30pm: Arrivals and welcome drink
- 6pm: Film screening
- 7pm: Meal
- 8.30pm: Wrap up
- 9pm: Close
Further information:
Tickets cost £22. £1 of the ticket price will cover the cost of the meal, and the rest of the profits will be going directly towards supporting Nadeen’s family in escaping Gaza. The Go Fund Me page can be found here.
Nadeem is now the sole carer for her three younger siblings. In November of last year, her parents and eldest sister returned to their home for food and clothes, and never came back. Nadeem lives in the remains of this home in Gaza city with her three siblings. The money raised from this gathering is to enable the remainder of Nadeem’s family to escape the genocide in Gaza and evacuate to Egypt to continue their education and rebuild.
We do not offer refunds. When purchasing your ticket, please consider an additional donation and we will also be accepting cash and card donations on the evening too. Please consider contributing as much as you can and so we can track the amount of money raised please could you email your receipt to: dhruv@narpr.co If you are struggling to know how much feels appropriate to donate there are some guiding prompts below:
- What expendable income could go towards this cause instead of how you would usually spend it? Expendable income is money spent on things such as coffee/tea at a cafe, cinema/theatre/music tickets, new clothes, books, etc.
- If going out for a meal and a film is something you may do, how much would you pay?
- Whilst providing experiences more tangibly associated with money (entertainment and food), we also hope to create an experience of collective learning, community and solidarity. This event is an open invitation to everyone.
The menu will be released to ticket holders nearer the time of the event. All food will be vegetarian and please let us know of any allergies or dietary requirements when you purchase your ticket. Please do not bring alcohol, this is a sober space.
There will be a stall selling Palestinian solidarity badges.
