Ahead of Samhain/Halloween this month, come for a chilled walk around the beautiful woods near Tring, Hertfordshire, see autumn in all its glorious colours, pocket some conkers, and hear stories of local “witches” and the legacy of the witch hunts.
Once you get your ticket, please click the Whatsapp link in the confirmation. I'll share updates there.
- Distance: 15 km / 9.3 miles
- Difficulty rating: Improver*
- Walking time: 4 hours
- Pace: Not too fast, with chances to stop and enjoy being in nature.
- Elevation: 100m - 240m (a few hills but we'll take it slow and steady).
- Accessibility: This walk will largely be on potentially muddy, unpaved, uneven footpaths with tree roots, with some gates/stiles. There will be a few fairly steep but short hills to ascend and some gradual downhills.
- Kit needed: Sturdy shoes you don't mind getting muddy (trainers with good grip, walking shoes/boots etc.), a small rucksack to carry your food (lunch and snacks), water (at least 1 litre), personal medication, waterproof jacket (and potentially waterproof trousers), warm clothing (jumper, hat, gloves etc.), something to sit on the ground (plastic bag, sit mat etc.), and possibly and umbrella (weather dependent). Due to the distance of this walk, you’ll be more comfortable in walking trousers/leggings/sweatpants, rather than jeans – as these will become cold and will likely rub your skin if they get wet.
* Improver walks are for people who have experience of half-day walks and want to try a longer day walk that involves a few more hills. The pace may vary but I’ll make sure everyone is comfortable. The idea is to have a chilled time connecting with nature and enjoying the journey together - not ‘smashing the hike' as fast as possible. Snack breaks and pauses to marvel at nature are encouraged!
Any questions or if you've missed out on a ‘pay what you can’ ticket and are unwaged/a carer/can't afford a ticket, let me know and if there's still space, I'll ping you a free ticket - outtohike@gmail.com
