A WEEKLY SEMINAR ON NIGHTLIFE & QUEERNESS
Facilitator: Justin Hunt
Cost: £25
Type: Online
Sessions: Weekly - Tuesdays, 6pm-8pm, 15 October - 5 November
Maximum Participants: 15
Module Description:
The dual profit of club culture—allowing collective identities to flourish and cash economies to support vast networks—is rarely interrogated. Far from being marginal to a locale’s identity, the businesses, clubs and networks that thrive “after hours” help define urban life and the identities of those who work and participate in them. This module employs performance studies and sociological methodologies to examine the business of nightlife from an academic perspective.
Topics:
Week 1: Queerness and Subculture
Week 2: Managing Nightlife Spaces
Week 3: Drug Cultures
Week 4: Sex and/as Labour
Participants will receive an e-course reader (including links to youtube and bespoke streaming documentaries) to support learning and drive weekly seminars exploring the topic.
Requirements:
- Interest or experience in queer nightlife
- Interest in exploring club and nightlife culture in an academic context
- Weekly reading, watching, and chatting
