This 90-minute workshop aims to empower LGBTIQA+ students by amplifying their voices, supporting student-led activism, and equipping educators with practical resources. Participants will explore strategies for fostering a more inclusive and supportive school environment, building effective allyship among staff and students, and driving meaningful change within educational communities. Through discussions and actionable insights, this session will provide educators with the tools needed to support LGBTIQA+ students and cultivate a culture of acceptance and advocacy.
Outcomes, Aims, and Objectives:
By the end of the session, educators will be better equipped to create safe, inclusive spaces where LGBTIQA+ students can thrive and lead the way towards positive social change.
Hannah Lownsbrough (she/her)
Hannah has over 20 years experience working in the non-profit sector, both in the UK and internationally. Until November 2019 she was Executive Director of SumOfUs, a digital first organisation campaigning internationally to curb the power of corporations. Previously, Hannah has worked for other campaigning organisations including GetUp, Stop Climate Chaos and 38 Degrees, where she was the first Campaigns Director in the founding team. Hannah also has wide experience as a coach, trainer and facilitator. She taught in higher education at the University of Westminster and for training organisations within the campaigning and non-profit sector.Hannah has served in governance roles for a variety of organisations, including community groups, non-profits, social enterprises and schools. Recently she was Co-Chair of AllOut and she remains a board member. She is also a governor of the Viridis Federation of schools in Hackney, London.
