Who protects us? We protect us."
T Girls on Film presents a screening of "Hookers on Davie" (dir.Cole & Dale,1984). The only documentation of Davie Street, a red-light stroll in Vancouver, known in the 80s as the "prostitution capitol of Canada." The film follows the community of trans and cis sex workers who collectively organise to refuse pimps and advocate for safety and self-defence. A poignant portrait of a vibrant queer community that would soon be decimated by gentrification, follow Michelle, Tiggy and the many transisters who had to fight for there own survival.
The film will be followed by a pre-recorded conversation with Canadian writer and artist, Morgan M Page (@odofemi) and Mardi Pieronek (@mardipantz), a model, artist and trans elder who knew the women of Davie Street.
TGirls on Film (TGirlsonFilm) is a trans feminine archival project, run by Jaye Hudson. The aim is to explore the social-poltical context of trans-feminine audio-visual culture. This is by and for the sisters.
We strive to provide a physical environment that is accessible to all visitors. This includes:
