🎬Celebrating QTPOC women in film 🎬
Join us for a special movie night in honour of Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day! This is a space for QTPOC to come together, watch a powerful film centring queer women of colour, and share our thoughts in a wee discussion at the end.
The people have chosen Joyland! Thank you to everyone who voted and hope you enjoy this film :)
About Joyland
Joyland is a beautifully shot Pakistani film centering a young man who becomes a backup dancer in a Bollywood-style burlesque show and falls in love with its beautiful trans lead, Biba. Although she is not technically the film's protagonist, she is the star of the show and battles a misogynistic and transphobic context to make her show a success!
The film caused a lot of controversy upon its release and has many flaws (as well as strengths), which we're excited to discuss with you all after the screening.
Trigger warnings for this film : Mentions of transphobia, queerphobia, and suicide.
