Are you curious about raising the pitch of your singing voice? Do your top notes feel thin and weak compared to your lower range? Just curious about what's possible? Come along to this three hour class on finding, using, and strengthening your upper register. We'll learn about how the upper register/head voice/falsetto works, learn some exercises for accessing more notes, play with the different sounds we can make up there, and start learning to blend our high and low registers together. For trans folks of any kind, and any level of singing ability, taught by two trans voice teachers.
About your teachers:
Stephen founded London Trans Choir in 2017 and has been working with trans voices of all kinds ever since. As a trained actor and musician, he brings a dynamic and flexible approach to voice work for all voice types. Through his work with The Tavistock and Portman Gender Clinic, Trans Choir, Love Tank, and with actor/singers from beginner to West End levels, he has worked with every voice type under the sun. A leading authority on transmasculine voice, he released his third book, “The Transmasculine Voice: A Guide To Vocal Euphoria” in 2024
Stephen trained initially as a musician in Canada (BMus UBC, MMus McGill), before moving to the UK in 2010. He is also a trained actor, and has been teaching and directing improvised theatre since 2014 (more about theatre here). His own vocal journey as a trans man who acts and sings was long and tumultuous, and he loves having the opportunity to help others ease the way.
Claudia:
My name is Claudia Novati (she/they), and I am a bilingual Voice Coach: I teach both in English and Italian. I hold an MFA in Voice Studies: Teaching and Coaching from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama (London, UK). I have been teaching Voice since 2014, centering the student, their learning processes and their objectives. I am also an Improv teacher, with a focus on nurturing self-confidence through community-building.
In my free time I like to befriend cats (if they consider me worthy) and playing videogames with my future wife, Grace.
