In this workshop we will engage the creative possibilities that emerge through embracing the unknown.
We live in uncertain times. Rather than resisting uncertainty, how can we develop a creative relationship with it—one that allows for discovery and connection.
Through guided exercises, we will experiment with methods that embrace unpredictability—allowing line, form, texture, and colour to emerge intuitively. Participants will inhabit practical techniques to utilise the uncertainty of an ‘unknown and unplanned outcome’ as a generative force in creative wellbeing, rather than a limitation.
Josie Alexandra will introduce participants to painting processes from Josie's own practice. This workshop is for all levels. From beginners just wanting to make a start, to experienced painters looking to break out of familiar patterns. This is an opportunity to let go of rigid expectations, build trust in process, and experience painting as an open-ended conversation.
Key areas of exploration:
- Developing a responsive and intuitive approach to form, texture, and colour
- The role of uncertainty in creative breakthroughs and techniques
- Letting go of fixed outcomes and embracing fluidity
- Utilising artistic practise as a platform for wellbeing
We will be providing materials (wooden boards, acrylic paints, brushes and paper), but please feel free to bring extra things you particularly like to use or would like to share. We will not be providing aprons or clothing covers of any kind so please make sure you bring your own, or wear old clothing you wouldn't mind getting a bit of paint on.
