This Pride season, we're going to be celebrating in style at a lovely venue in Bristol, and we'd love to see you there!
Hot off the success of our series of iftars in London, Manchester and Glasgow, we are delighted to announce our Bristol meet and greet event, coinciding with Bristol Pride. Although Hidayah is not marching in the parade, we wholeheartedly endorse Bristol Pride, its objectives and its principles, particularly in relation to sponsorships and organisations in attendance. Our event will take place shortly after the march, so you're welcome to join us after taking part in the parade!
Here at Hidayah, we will always remember that Pride began as a protest, led by trans women of colour. And as we witness the rights of trans people under attack on an institutional level, that protest is needed now more than ever. We will always stand in solidarity with our trans and nonbinary siblings, and our events continue to wholeheartedly embrace trans and nonbinary Muslims and allies - now and forever.
About Hidayah:
Hidayah’s mission is to provide support and welfare for LGBTQI+ Muslims. Our vision is to ensure our voices are heard and understood. We are a mix of practising and non-practising Muslims, and we warmly welcome friends, families and allies to our events.
If you are an LGBTQI Muslim in financial difficulty and you wish to attend the event, please email our Events Team at events@hidayahlgbt.co.uk.
Please note that Hidayah's first priority is always to safeguard the wellbeing of volunteers and service users. Hidayah therefore reserves the right to refuse or refund tickets at its discretion. Any decision to do so is not made lightly and will only ever be on the basis of safeguarding.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to be a Hidayah member to attend the event?
Yes, anyone attending a Hidayah event needs sign up for membership via our website and the Yoti app. This protects safeguarding and ensure that everyone in attendance is who they say they are. Any data collected remains confidential and securely encrypted. If you do not want to use the Yoti app, please get in touch with our membership team (membership@hidayahlgbt.co.uk), so we can arrange a manual verification via video call.
Will it cost me anything to become a Hidayah member?
For the purpose of attending an event, no. You can attend an event by signing up for As-Shams, our free tier for queer Muslims, and al-Halif, our free tier for allies. Our paid tiers give you access to other membership perks. Find out more by going to https://hidayahlgbt.com/membership.
Where is the event happening? I can't see an address.
We will send the address to attendees two days before the event. Please do not share the address with anyone not attending the event.
I don't want any pictures posted online of me from the event. Can I opt out?
Yes, of course! We are keen to ensure this is a safe space for you. Please inform our Events team and we can provide you with a sticker so we know not to photograph you.
I'm not an LGBTQI Muslim but I am an ally. Can I still attend?
We warmly welcome partners, friends and family of queer Muslims to our events as we believe your support and solidarity is invaluable. But we do ask for more in the ticket price to reflect the community we serve.
I'm not sure about my gender identity/sexuality, or I'm not a very practising Muslim. Can I attend?
We don't gatekeep when it comes to being queer or being Muslim. We know there is no one way of being either. Whatever level you practise Islam and are LGBTQ is fine with us; if you identify as such, that's enough for us.
I am a queer Muslim in financial difficulty. Can I attend for free?
For sure! We will always be accommodating of queer Muslims in financial difficulty, whether due to being an asylum seeker, refugee, unemployed, etc. Please email our Events Team at events@hidayahlgbt.co.uk with 1) Your name 2) Dietary requirements 3) If you consent to being photographed.
Does this ticket give me access to Bristol Pride?
No. Hidayah is not marching at Bristol Pride, although we fully support its aims and endeavours. Admission to this event is completely separate from admission to any Bristol Pride performance, parade or event and will need to be purchased separately.
