Queer Migrations Festival: Opening Lecture
Discover how abstract art becomes a language of law in Dr. Elvira Pushkareva’s lecture-dialogue
Dr. Elvira Pushkareva, a legal scholar and artist, explores how visual abstract art can challenge colonial legacies and ignite dialogue. With over 20 years of experience working in international law, she now turns complex legal standards—like Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC)—into powerful visual experiences. Dr Pushkareva’s work raises critical questions, such as: Why is real consent still denied, even when international law demands it? Why are LGBTQIA+ identities erased in modern legal systems? Her work calls attention to colonial oppressions and the injustices faced by indigenous peoples, who continue to be forcibly removed from their lands in the name of "development". This workshop invites you to see rights, resistance, and recognition through a bold new lens.
