Film Screening: Soundtrack to a Coup d’État
An Anti-Genocide University warmly invites you to a special screening of the award-winning documentary Soundtrack to a Coup d’État.
This screening will mark 65 years since DR Congo’s independence from Belgium (30 June), offering a moment to reflect on the legacies of anti-colonial struggle, global complicity in Patrice Lumumba’s assassination, the ongoing genocide in the DR Congo, and the enduring fight for sovereignty across the continent.
About the Film: Soundtrack to a Coup d’État is a powerful documentary that blends archival footage with jazz, tracing the entanglements of music, empire, and the 1961 assassination of Congolese Prime Minister Patrice Lumumba.
There will be time for collective discussion following the screening.
This event is free and open to all.
The film will be introduced by our friends from the Congolese Action Youth Group with further reflections from Lauren Drozd from the Anti-Colonial Film Club.
Organised by Drs Pauline van Mourik Broekman, Giuliana Ferri and Feryal Awan.
