3pm-4.15pm | Beyond repair - workshop Zara Dinnen (QMUL) This session will be a workshop in form and practice. Taking the ‘repairer’s workshop’ of the TV showThe Repair Shop as inspiration, alongside the ‘workshop’ as a critical pedagogical form, we will together try to work out what to do with a situation, an institution, that feels beyond repair. The workshop will begin with some ideas about repair as an ambivalent necessity in the context of our broken worlds, in which there is never time to engage with repair as a critical or transformative act. Then using the format of The Repair Shop, we will work together to try and make sense of our broken object, how it broke, what the break is, what we want it for in the future, how we will fix it, who ‘we’ (owners, caretakers, users, experts, customers, workers…?) are. And then at the end, a gameshow final twist (not in the original): we can decide, repair or revolt! |
