WELCOME
You're invited to LGBTQIA+ Fungi Art Workshops with Oyster Mushrooms!
Hi, I’m Sara (she/her), an artist and PhD student at Central Saint Martins, part of University of the Arts London. Join me this July for a weekly series of creative workshops with queer mycelial companions.
Together, we’ll be growing mushrooms from personal objects that have queering significance to tell our stories in fun and unique ways. This is a chance to get creative, be outdoors, socialise, and learn something new. We can also make badges of fungal pride, try fungi-inspired poetry, photography, collaging, 3D scanning, and AR to document the growing process.
We'll be working with varieties of Oyster Mushrooms aka Pleurotus, which means “side-ear”. These fungi will help us listen and learn in unexpected ways to question and challenge dominant humanness.
Give a gift and get a badge of fungal pride in return + a framed photograph of what we create together at the end.
GIVE A GIFT TO THE FUNGI
*Bring with you a personal object* that you'd like to give to the fungi for them to grow from, feed on, and decompose. Please note you won't be getting the object back, so give something you feel comfortable parting with :) It can be of any size or material.
CHOOSE YOUR MYCELIAL COMPANION
You'll decide what species of Oyster fungi you'd like to give your gift to! We'll do a “match-making” game to help find your mycelial companion.
FREE TICKETS
Come to as many sessions as you like. We'll be journeying with the fungi as they grow, so the more you can attend the better! But it's totally up to you, come to one or multiple. Note: You'll need to check-out again to get tickets for each date.
LOCATION
We will be on the Rooftop Terrace at Central Saint Martins. Your name will need to be added to the college Visitor List, so please do get a ticket or email me so you can be added and gain access. The nearest tube station is Kings Cross on the Northern, Piccadilly, Circle, Metropolitan and Hammersmith & City Lines.
DIETARY & ACCESS NEEDS
Drinks and snacks will be provided. If you have any dietary or access needs, please let me know. The Rooftop Terrace has step-free access.
ALLERGIES
Are you allergic to mushrooms or mould? Then please don’t take part.
