Qualified in dance movement therapy and psychotherapy, Poorvaja is also a part of the queer community, currently working as a mental health professional with elop: LGBTQ+ Mental Health and Wellbeing Charity.
Through their training and career, Poorvaja has specialised in supporting people with lived experience of marginalisation, oppression and trauma. Whilst Poorvaja will facilitate the space, expect collaboration and co-production.
Poorvaja’s approach to therapeutic movement is trauma-aware and somatic. Poorvaja’s passion for therapeutic healing and connection also brings sensitivity to potential re-traumatisation that can occur when focusing on our bodies. Participants can expect a truly special experience with release of stressors and somatic liberation.

elop has been supporting the mental health and wellbeing of LGBTQ+ community from Greater London and Essex borders since 1995. That 30+ years! elop is the largest LGBTQ+ community counselling service in the UK, offering low-cost counselling over 14 or 28 sessions, and will soon reintroduce our 42-session service; the longest service contract offered in an LGBTQ+ community counselling setting.
Despite the size of our counselling service, elop remains a grassroots developed and community led charity. We hold a holistic understanding of mental health and wellbeing, recognising that to flourish, concerns of our ‘whole’ self-need to be addressed. This vision recognises the importance of having a sense of community and belonging, of safety and support.
We understand the historic pathologisation of our community and the increasingly hostile narrative around our trans sisters in particular, so we want to challenge unhealthy and unhelpful assumptions, offer identity affirmation through individual and group mental health support, psychoeducation, social and support space for LGBTQ+ adults, and young people aged 12+.
Another opportunity unique to elop is professional counselling training with our Foundation Certificate in LGBTQ+ Affirmative Counselling and our qualification course, an Advanced Diploma in Integrative LGBTQ+ Affirmative Counselling.
