AIDS Memorial Quilt, which began in 1985 when activist Cleve Jones asked protesters to write the names of a loved one who had died of AIDS on a placard and carry them to the San Francisco Federal Building. At the end of the protest, he and others taped placards to the walls of the building. He thought the placards resembled a patchwork quilt, and the idea for the AIDS Memorial Quilt was born.
We are very grateful to the Assembly for the use of the lovely Noverre Room 🩷
