Curious about alternatives to capitalism and other, non-academic ways of understanding ‘economy’ that help us to organise for collective freedom?
Would you like to meet others to explore these ideas, with the option to get involved in further organising?
📘Come to our Hedge School! 🌿
Saturday 13th September, 9am-5pm
(including breaks and a shared lunch)
Who is this for?
🌱 Women and others* with a connection to that identity are welcome🌻
So that we can have a meaningful discussion, spaces are limited to 20 people.
Please register your interest and let us know what you are curious about discussing below.
What is a Hedge School?
📝 Hedge Schools were Irish anti-colonial schools by and for the peasantry under British occupation.
👥 Other communities in struggle have similar traditions, such as Black Saturday schools and underground academies in occupied Kurdistan.
✊🏽The aim is to learn together towards collective liberation, and sharing the knowledge we have.
What will it be like?
🔎 We will explore the systems that have hidden certain forms of knowledge from us and what still remains.
🏘 We'll discuss questions like ‘What effects does living in the capitalist system have on us?’ and ‘What would it mean to have a communal economy?’
🧵There will be a practical workshop where you can learn about textile production as a life-giving community practice.
❓❔No previous knowledge or experience will be assumed or required.
You can expect:
💬interactive workshop sessions
🍲a potluck meal
👯comradeship and togetherness
🧘🏽plenty of breaks, and a long lunch
How much does it cost?
💸 Nothing! We are organising this event as people coming together in our community.
❎ None of us are paid and this event does not have any external funding.
🚐 Please chip in what you can to help us pay for costs, such as venue hire and supporting travel costs.
👋🏽 You are very welcome and we don't expect everyone will be able to contribute.
🗣 If you would like support with transport costs to help you to get to the Hedge School, please just ask (our email address is below).
🫵🏽 Your presence is more valuable than money 😘
Please bring:
- Your good self - plus your children if you'd like (please let us know below)
- Something to take notes on, if you like to take notes or doodle
- A dish of food to share, labelled with ingredients.
Those who eat together fight together!
We hope to see you there ❤️
Contact: thosewhoeattogether@riseup.net with any further questions.
When you buy a ticket, we'll have a few questions for you to answer. In case we are oversubscribed, we will confirm your space by Sunday 7th September.
*The experience of women is at the centre of these events, but this is not a narrow or essentialist understanding of woman. Trans women are very welcome. If you have experience of being socialised or treated as a woman but do not define as a woman, you are also welcome and we will not assume you are a woman if you attend.
