Night three of That's Showbiz! brings a surprise short, and a classic from legendary director Olivier Assayas (Personal Shopper, Demonlover).
Irma Vep (1996) stars Maggie Cheung (In the Mood for Love) as a version of herself, a Hong Kong star adrift in Paris after being cast as the lead in a troubled remake of a French silent film; struggling to navigate a difficult director (Jean-Pierre Léaud), a tight schedule, the advances of the costume designer, and unfamiliar surroundings.
With supporting turns from Nathalie Richard (Cache, Never Let Me Go), and Alex Descas (35 Shots of Rhum, Trouble Every Day), Assayas' ‘latex comedy’ remains one of the coolest, and most iconic films of the 1990s.
