Carnival Workshop with Bellas da Silveira
Step into the spirit of Rio de Janeiro’s street carnival in this immersive and high-energy dance workshop!
Led by Bellas da Silveira—a powerful Black trans performer and staple of Brazil’s carnival scene—this workshop blends movement, performance, and celebration. With years of experience dancing in legendary blocos like Amigos da Onça, Monobloco, and ParaĂso do Tuiuti, Bellas brings the raw, radiant energy of the streets directly to you.
Throughout the session, Bellas will guide participants through core movements and rhythms that embody Rio’s carnival spirit. You’ll learn playful and empowering steps rooted in:
- Carnaval street bloco dances, including a performance to a song by Amigos da Onça that captures the blocos’ cheeky, rebellious energy.
- Axé, a dance style from Bahia full of big, joyful movements and collective choreography that will get your whole body moving.
- Funk Carioca, where grounded, sensual, and percussive movements take centre stage—offering a taste of Rio’s powerful favela-born dance culture.
Expect a vibrant mix of guided choreography, free expression, and live performance. Bellas will create a space for joy, embodiment, and liberation—carnival style.
No experience necessary—just bring comfortable clothes, water, and your desire to move!
