Join us on a beautiful and amazing hike from Gullane to Aberlady! We can see some beautiful coastal paths, plants, rocks, birds and big beaches and small beaches, dunes, and be prepared for an amazing view of Aberlady towards the end. 🌱🌊
About the walk:
This is mostly a flat hike/walk. There are areas with small rocks (spread rocks) and big stones that get covered by the tide, algae and sea life live there. This can be slippery, but we will give each other a hand to pass by. This will require a small climb over the flat stones. Most of the paths pass through the coast and beaches. This is a link to inform about the route and also a map (we won't do the round path, we will walk by the portion closer to the sea)
- We will start by meeting at Waterloo Place bus stop ZK in Edinburgh princes street at 10:15 am
- Nat will be there at 10:15am to meet everyone who is joining!
- We will take the bus X5 direction to North Berwick scheduled at 10:24 am from Waterloo Place towards Gullane (50 min) up to Goose Green (approx 11:20am).
- We will start walking (close to 11:20am) from the Goose Green bus stop in Gullane town towards Gullane beach. Then, from big Gullane beach towards Aberlady reserve (2 to 3 hours)
- We will sit midway for lunch. Please bring your own lunch and snacks. There are cafés in Gullane near the bus stop but there are no more shops all the way there on the hike.
- Reaching Aberlady at 3 or 4pm
- Coming back to Edinburgh from Aberlady Community Hall (bus stop): we can take the bus X5 at 5:25pm (last one) or bus 124 has several times down to 9pm
- It is possible to take the train from Aberlady to Edinburgh and then Glasgow, this is an option.
- There are toilets at the start and end of the hike, at Gullane beach and in Aberlady Reserve.
We intend and hope to decide together what feels safer for the group at all moments of the hike.
What to bring:
- Food of your choice for lunch, snacks and water.
- Comfy shoes that allow you to walk comfy over hours and to pass by rocks and sand. We are not sure about the weather yet but rain coats are always advisable.
We will stop for lunch midway! This could be a food sharing activity, please do have in mind how much you are comfortable to carry over the walk and prioritise your hydration needs.
There is no set time scheduled for food but there are several places that are comfy to sit and have lunch. Depending on the groups' agreement and people’s feel we can decide together when to sit and eat together.
