THE SIMPLE CLOWN: TWO WORKSHOPS LED BY SIMON FRASER -
1. ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS. 11.30am - 1.30pm
A chance to play!
Dip your toes into the marvellous and liberating pleasure of clowning, where less is more and failure means success!
This workshop is entry-level, suitable for anyone with little or no clowning experience. We will be looking at the clown’s approach to the world and objects/props, physicality and the connection to the audience.
2. SECONDS OUT ROUND TWO. 2.00 - 4.10pm
For clowns with a bit of previous, or who have just done the morning session!
We will go further into the character behind the nose, exploring this remarkable, sometimes cathartic non-verbal performance skill, building on physicality and the power in movement and silence - being able to not do!
“The world of fools…, the upside-down world where you must look at things as if for the first time and process them, always through joy.” (Slava Polunin)
“Great creative fun learning clowning in a supportive atmosphere”
“A perfect one off workshop, simple and accessible exercises… Can’t recommend enough”
“Simon is a brilliant teacher who helped me find new approaches to clown… I laughed A LOT too”
The clown engages with a world full of surprises and bewildering, duplicitous objects. Clowns navigate their universe with joyful interest and sometimes mischief, though not (from the audience’s perspective) in the most obvious, logical way. They are regularly perplexed, but never defeated. The clown is not stupid. The nose is not a mask.
