Welcome to the #SaferToBeMe Conference. This is the start of our fight back!
Be one of the 500 people attending at Gateshead College's Academy of Sport to watch 42+ talks, panels and workshops, focused on some of the most pressing issues facing the U.K. and globally, all under the theme of 'power, populism and politics'
#SaferToBeMe promises to inspire, challenge, and bring us together from over 40+ countries to think about how we can tackle the global rollback of LGBTQ+ human rights. With a conference theme of power, populism and politics, it will address issues in the United Kingdom and globally, and offer solutions for change at both a micro and macro level.
Candlelit vigil and the UK AIDS Memorial Quilt:
Please note that the plenary on the final day of the conference (at the very end, between 4-5pm) will contain a candlelit vigil to remember those LGBTQ+ human rights defenders who we have lost due to violence and those we have lost due to AIDS, and continue to do so through aid cuts. Throughout the two days, the UK AIDS Memorial Quilt will also be exhibited in the Main Hall as a reflection of this. This final hour is open to the wider public, but is also included in your ticket booking, so you do not have to book a separate ticket on our diary site.
You get an extra free ticket for the Newcastle-Gateshead Declaration!
We also invite you, upon booking a ticket, to sign up for a free ticket to the unveiling of the historic Newcastle-Gateshead Declaration, the world's first LGBTQ+ statement of solidarity. Come to the grand launch of this on the evening of the second day of the conference to see an act of history being signed. This also serves as our end of Summit party!
