The next monthly animation event will be a special fundraiser for Gaza, showcasing the work of animator Haneen and her team in Gaza. They work with local children, women and people with disabilities facilitating animation workshops to create a film a week throughout and despite the war in Gaza. We will screen a programme of these films with video intro from Haneen herself.
The event will also screen an additional three films to highlight the voices of Palestinian filmmakers:
Sea Me - Tina Jacob
In a haunting blend of poetry and experimental mixed media animation, a Palestinian queer soul confronts the impossible choice between erasure and survival, navigating the crushing weight of occupation and rejection in search of identity. "You always have to choose between fire or hell”.
Mariam - Dana Durr
A girl who witnesses the destruction of her precious paradise, a broad and unbreakable bond is illustrated through motifs of olive trees and other symbols in this film about the unity of people and their land.
A Bloody Situation - Nerian Keywan
Nara, on the brink of her first period, stumbles through a chaotic, surreal coming of age journey, where the mundane meets the absurd and growing up feels like a quietly political act.
We will be joined for a Q+A post screening with Nerian Keywan
Tickets are pay what you can and all proceeds go towards Haneen’s workshop Go Fund Me.
Big thanks to Joanna Quinn and Cardiff Animation Festival for disseminating Haneens films to us for this event.
Additionally there will be posters sold at the event to raise money for Islamic Relief UK.
