With Corbyn and Zarah launching Your Party, we must ask ourselves what type of party do we want. Importantly, how do we fight against the troubling transphobic and nationalist ideologies that seem to be permeating within some members of the new left party? To help us through that, RS21 Brum will be joined by Alex Charnley and Michael Richmond, who will help us diagnose how we got here, and how we can fight our way out of it.
The panel will discuss:
- Histories of feminist movements and their relationship with both the left and the far-right
- The current conjuncture and discourses of transphobia and how they are integral to the nationalist idea of ‘civilizational decline;’
- What is the role of a new left party, and what do we want out of it?
