What a beautiful and inspiring journey.
We love this project with all our hearts and the community we built with you all feeds us with hope, belonging and love. Much much love! OBRIGADA! To each one of you. The newcomers and the ones who have been joining us since the old times at Ridley Road Social Club. The real makers of this project are you. And we might never be able to say enough obrigada.
We deeply love doing this with you.
To the business! 🕺
We will be screening a classic from the 70-80s, a film that until today is in almost every list of best Brazilian films ever.
A film that goes from the Sertao and its dryness, to the Amazon and its richness, the impact of the Trans Amazonian Highway on indigenous communities and more. An adventure through a country that was (and it still is) changing!
Bye Bye Brazil, by Carlos Diegues, Produced by L.C. Barreto, Brazil, 1979.
The Caravana Rolidei rolls into town with the Gypsy Lord at the mike: he does magic tricks, the erotic Salomé dances, and the mute Swallow performs feats of strength. A young accordion player is completely enamored of Salomé, and he begs to come along. The Gypsy Lord shrugs, and the accordionist and his pregnant wife, Dasdô, join the troupe. Television is their enemy as they go from de coast deep into the Amazon.
After the film, a DJ TBA will hit up the dance floor and we'll dance to the best Brazilian tunes and hug and kiss and sweat! The best Brazilian way!
Check out our tickets options and come celebrate with us! 🥰
