Oran Johnson is a composer and electric guitarist who is influenced by an eclectic variety of music. His work draws on his classical training, his years of gigging with various rock bands, and his love of electronic styles such as trip hop and ambient music.
In 2023 Oran released ‘Landscapes’, an EP of six pieces for electric guitar that bring together different aspects of his musical life, influenced as much by his experiences of playing in bands as his experiences of composing for classical ensembles. Each track presents a different atmosphere, creating a journey through energetic rhythms, ambient moods and distorted textures. They also each feature a different way of playing the guitar, from using a cello bow to rubbing the strings with a coin.

Alex Groves is an Ivor Novello-nominated composer and curator working across contemporary classical and electronic music. Taking inspiration from queer club culture, abstract artists like Barbara Hepworth, Bridget Riley and Richard Long, and the natural world, his work often blends classical instrumentalists with live processing to create uncanny soundworlds which blur the line between acoustic and electronic.
For this new solo project, Alex is stepping into the spotlight onstage as a performer for the first time in his career and combining his love of contemporary composition with that of electronic dance music. The project will also be a new avenue for collaborations with the electronic tracks being remixed and rearranged with live performers creating a constant musical conversation between different artists.
At small room sessions, Alex will be joined by viola player Ella Beard – a fierce champion of contemporary classical music whose work tells diverse stories, connects communities, broadens perspectives, and has a meaningful social impact.
