Panel discussion on the legacy of Francoism for the LGBTQ+ community, focusing on three main areas:
The realities of lesbians, their resistance within religious spaces and persecution by the Women's Protection Board
Gender dissident archives from the 1950s and 1960s and the role of compulsory military service, based on the unpublished photographic collection of artist Manolito Soler
‘Re-education centres’ for homosexuals, with special emphasis on the agricultural colony of Tefía.
Speakers:
• Moisés Fernández Cano (University of Stirling), author of the doctoral thesis Unveiling Madrid: queer intimacies under Franco (EUI, 2024) and current president of MariCorners. Association for Interdisciplinary LGBTIA+ Studies.
• Daniela Ferrández Pérez (University of Santiago de Compostela), author of “A defunción dos sexos ”(Xerais, 2022) and involved in various research projects on LGTBIQ+ historical memory in Galicia.
• Víctor M. Ramírez (independent), author of “Peligrosas y Revolucionarias. Las disidencias sexuales en Canarias durante el franquismo y la transición” (Tamaimos, 2019) and Director General of Diversity for the Government of the Canary Islands (2019-2023).
