Zines in Research with Clara Searle
Clara Searle (she/her) is a doctoral researcher and creative practitioner. Recently submitting her doctoral thesis Yes, We Read: The Intersectional Relationships between Women of Colour and Books in Britain, she uses zine making in her research and personal practice. In addition to being key to her PhD research methods, Clara has led zine-making workshops and talks at The Wellcome Collection, Loughborough University London, and The University of Oxford. These have focussed on exploring intersectional identity including gender, race, and neurodiversity. Her own artwork has explored identity expression, and she recently had a zine featured in the Wellcome Collection’s ‘Zines Forever! DIY Publishing and Disability Justice’ display.
This presentation will explore how zines can be used in research as a data collection method or reflexive tool. It will also provide insight into how they provide accessibility, fit methodological approaches, and the different means of approaching and utilising them.
This event will take place ONLINE.
